Reference and testimony regarding Mr Sandy Miller (owner of Sandy Miller Carpentry)
In September 2020, I made contact with Sandy Miller through a recommendation from a friend of my wife.
As the owner and project manager of our barn conversion, I instructed Sandy to carry out (and not limited to) the following work;
Construction and installation of bespoke door linings.
Construction of random width doors to fit (approx 40 in total)
Fitting of door furniture and in some cases complex locks required for insurance purposes.
Build from scratch bespoke kitchen units in various hard and softwoods.
Assemble and install high end staircase.
Cut, install and fix window boards.
To build a bespoke pullout desk. Stained and finished to an extremely high quality.
To build a bespoke shelving system to include space for TV and computer monitor.
To build several bespoke built in wardrobes and fit hardware.
In September 2020, Sandy worked here on site full time every week. In the last few months as the work is coming to an end, he just covers one day a week now.
Sandy’s punctuality has been excellent. Always here just before the agreed start time.
He would sometimes leave site 30 minutes or so after finish time to complete any work.
Most of the required hardware (screws etc) was on site although Sandy would call into a local supplier on his way home if he needed anything for the following day.
Sandy has a very enviable tool collection that he brings on site. His tools are modern and some of them state of the art to create a very high end finish.
Despite a couple of changes requested (from myself), Sandy made any required adjustments quickly and without fuss.
Sandy works very well either on his own or if other builders are on site, together in a great teamwork environment.
The joinery work here is now coming to an end and we will all miss his input and presence.
Luckily though we will have all the fantastic work he has created in our new conversion to remind us just how great his work is.

In January 2022 I contacted Sandy with regards to some in-built furniture for my grade II listed barn conversion project. When it became clear he was able to produce work to an outstanding quality, he was further instructed to undertake all the remaining carpentry work on site. I instructed Sandy to carry out (and not limited to) the following work;

Construction and installation of bespoke door linings, architraves and skirting boards

Construction of bespoke width and height internal doors to fit (approx. 10 in total) including the fitting of cottage style hinges and mechanisms

Construction of a large bespoke oak stable door with custom ironmongery

Construction of a large bespoke furniture cabinet and book storage unit

Assemble and install a staircase including the replacement and reinforcement of key structural elements.

Cut, install and fix oak window boards.

Various repairs to the historic timber frame of the building.
Sandy was on site full time for approximately 12 weeks. He was always extremely polite, diligent, punctual and tidy. Nothing was too much trouble, and he worked around the various trades (and ourselves) without any complaint. He was always engaging, and wiling to find solutions to complex problems. He was always able to source materials at a competitive rate, and fit these around working days. Given the nature of this project, everything required an extra level of detail and thought – Sandy approached each problem with relish, and the quality he has been able to deliver is outstanding. The other trades who have been on site have all echoed this feedback.
It has been a pleasure to have Sandy work on this project, and I would highly recommend him for any work that requires a carpenter who is able to deliver a standard rarely seen these days. He has truly enhanced the property, and we look forward to admiring his work for decades to come.
